Les premières deux marches de la série La Marche (est haute), celles de Raymond Gervais et Rober Racine, ont été planifiées, chacune à sa manière, en réponse aux noms des rues suivies. Ces deux marches m’ont redirigé au répertoire historique des toponymes montréalais, où j'ai découvert l'existence d'une avenue Éric. Selon le site de la Ville de Montréal, la date de désignation de l'avenue Éric est « avant le 12 février 1974 », cependant, en place de l’explication de l’origine du nom, on lit que « Les recherches actuelles n'ont pu permettre de retracer l'origine de ce nom ».
En réponse à une invitation de dernière minute du commissaire Eric Mattson, je lui ai proposé qu'on profite de l’origine obscure de ce nom de rue, pour faire une réclamation « conceptuelle » en son honneur. Dans ce but, nous allons entreprendre une expédition — l’avenue Éric se trouve à la frontière Montréal-Anjou —, pour étayer une proposition que « l’avenue Éric » soit rebaptisé « l’avenue Eric ». J'envisage la production d'un dossier de documents quasi légaux, faisant témoignage de cette revendication.
Une tentative subtile de récrire l’histoire par moyen d’une série de petits gestes d’indication peu visibles.

The first two walks in the series La Marche (est haute), those by Raymond Gervais and Rober Racine, were planned, at least in part, in response to the names of streets along the way. Those walks inspired me to return to the City of Montreal’s on-line directory of place names, where I discovered the existence of an avenue Éric. According to the website, avenue Éric was so named "before February 12, 1974”, although rather than the usual explanation of the source of the name, in this case one reads that ”Current research has not made it possible to trace the origin of this name."
In response to a last-minute invitation by curator Eric Mattson, I suggested to him that we take advantage of the indeterminate origins of this street name, in order to make a "conceptual reclaiming” of avenue Éric in his honour. To that end, we will undertake an expedition there together—avenue Éric is at the border of Montréal and Anjou—in order to initiate a claim that “avenue Éric” be renamed as “avenue Eric”. I imagine the production of a dossier of quasi-legal documents in support of this proposed name change.
